Calls From Your Bank Can Sound Way Too Real

Phone rings, someone says they’re from your credit union, starts talking like they already know your info. It doesn’t feel like a random scam call, more like something legit that just needs quick confirmation. That pressure makes it easy to say too much without thinking. Has anyone had one of these calls recently, and how do you tell it’s fake before it goes too far?

Calls like that feel real when the person already has just enough details to sound informed. What usually gives it away is the push for fast confirmation, the request to share codes or account info out loud, or the way they try to keep you on the line instead of letting you hang up and call back yourself. I’ve seen people describe bank impersonation scam in almost that exact pattern, where the call sounds polished right up until the urgency starts doing all the heavy lifting. The safest move is ending it and calling the credit union directly from the number on your card.
