Build a pond your family looks forward to fishing. California pond owners can explore fish shipped by our partner, Sport Fish Direct, and enter LMP5 at checkout for 5% off. Confirm your destination, species, and required paperwork before buying.

Fish options for California ponds

Sport Fish Direct’s California catalog lists northern largemouth bass, native and coppernose bluegill, redear sunfish, and several forage minnow options. Current stock, sizes, and eligibility can change. Browse the current California fish selection.

Start with your goal: family fishing, a new bass pond, or support for an existing fish population. Pond size, water quality, summer temperatures, existing predators, and available forage all affect a stocking plan. Avoid adding predators before checking whether your pond can support them.

Check California stocking requirements

Requirements depend on fish species and pond location. California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife lists exceptions for certain fish in designated areas, while Sport Fish Direct’s shipping chart flags California for a private stocking permit. Confirm your exact pond address and required stocking and import paperwork with the supplier and CDFW before ordering. Shipping availability does not by itself authorize stocking.
