Lotus can be treated with products such as Glyphomate 41, Diquat based treatments and with Imazapyr. Lotus can make great cover in a pond as long as it doesn't get too aggressive.  Keep in mind, as with many types of vegetation, Lotus can be healthy for a pond just keep a watchful eye.
