Other names for Southern Naiad is Najas or also commonly known as bushy pondweed. 

Southern Naiad is widely spread in the United States.  It's long stem has many branches.  Bushy Pondweed can be found in ponds, springs and in brackish water ways.  Naiad can get so thick, is can look like mats in the water. Southern Naiad has many very narrow inch long leaves.  Also Naiad leaves are form oppositely on the stem. The leaves are deep green to a purpleish green.  Grass carp will eat stems and shoot but Naiad can grow very quickly and Grass Carp may have a tough time keeping up. Spot treatments can fragment vegetation and spread. Currently Fluridone is one of the best treatments for this type of vegetation.
